CP was named thus, in honour of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, third son of Queen Victoria. Connaught was the name of a province in Ireland, now known by its modern Irish language-based spelling of Connacht. The Dukedom of Connaught and Strathearnwas later seen as the title thatwould be awarded to the British monarch's third son.
