Photo Studios of Connaught Place

Long before the selfie driven war, waged in megapixels or, even the invention of instant Polaroid pictures, getting a photograph clicked was an occasion in itself. People would dress in their best outfits and strike the most regal poses to be remembered for years to come. There were many photo studios in Connaught Place but only a few like Mahatta& Co. stand strong. Mehta was a difficult name for British gentry to pronounce resulting in the rechristening. Established at C.P. in 1947, Mahatta& Co. has its roots in Kashmir, dating back to 1915. The company has an archive of more than 300,000 photographs; they include early 20th century glimpses of Kashmir, Rajasthan and Delhi. There are numerous stories that the Mehtas' have captured through their lenses and this was a brief story about them.
