HAUZ-i KHAS

BUILT BY ALA-UD DIN KHILJI (1296-1316)

RE-EXCAVATED BY FIROZ SHAH TUGHLAQ (1351-88)

Hauz-i-Khas stands for "Royal Tank" wherein Hauz means water tank and Khas means royal. The ancient reservoir was built by Allauddin Khilji (1296-1316) and re-excavated by Feroz Shah Tughlaq (1351-88). It was a rainwater reservoir for the City of Siri, and originally spread over 123.6 acres.
